Sunstone Systems designs bespoke solar technologies using a combination of industry experience, world class engineers and a commitment to disruptive innovation in security. Operating in Kent since 2011, the company has evolved from an IP security systems installer to designing and manufacturing ground breaking technologies. This includes the award winning, patented Solar CCTV System which uses renewable energy and is currently deployed both internationally and in the UK.
The company’s rapid growth over the past 7 years has been aided by the financial assistance available from Kent County Council. Louisa Nye, Finance Director at Sunstone explains, “In 2015 KCC helped fund our growth via the ‘Small Business Boost’ and two years later, we benefited hugely from the ‘Kent and Medway Business Fund’. This fund contributed to the working capital required to continue our rapid growth.” Nye continues “The county’s competitive rates on manufacturing and office space have also been a major benefit to us and its with savings such as these that we have successfully seen our annual revenue more than quadruple over the past year, and we anticipate a further 50% increase in the next financial year.”
The firm based in Herne Bay, are keen to nurture local talent and actively recruit from the local area to fulfil key roles in the company. “Many of our staff live close by, helping us achieve the perfect work/life balance. The location is also good to travel into London. We regularly use the high speed connection for critical strategic meetings.”
As the company continues to grow, Sunstone Systems may need to secure larger premises in the future to support their expansion. The firm are adamant however they will not be moving very far, “we are really pleased with the networking opportunities that have come from being located in Kent. These opportunities have supported us through our growth by giving us access to the products and services we require to succeed.”
